NC 615

North Carolina Highway 615 is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of North Carolina. It runs from the Knotts Island Ferry Terminal, in Knotts Island, to the Virginia state line, near Virginia Beach, Virginia.

NC 615 sole purpose is to connect the community of Knotts Island with both mainland North Carolina and Virginia. The 9.1 miles (14.6 km) route starts at the dock then east along Ferry Dock Road till it ends at South End Road, take left. After 2.2 miles (3.5 km), take a left again onto Knotts Island Road. After 1.8 miles (2.9 km), take a left again onto Marsh Causeway, the road will reach the state line after 5 miles (8.0 km). The route is well signed and is completely overlapped with NC Bike Route 4. On Marsh Causeway, the highway serves as a northern border to the Mackay Island National Wildlife Refuge.

Ferry service predates the highway by one year (1962) and is considered part of NC 615. It was established originally to shorten the travel time for Knott's Island school children to their school on the mainland (in Barco). The ferry is free with year-round service; the travel time is 45 minutes over the Currituck Sound to Currituck.

The highway is considered the second loneliest (after NC 128) and is the northeastern most route in the state.

The highway was established in 1963, one year after ferry service began for Knotts Island. Little has changed since.
